Erin Bell Bozon (born Erin Bell) is the co-creator of Shantae, alongside her husband Matt Bozon. She is working in the animation field.

Studies[]

Erin Bozon studied at the California Institute of the Arts, where she met her future husband Matt Bozon.[1]

Career[]

Erin Bozon has worked as a character layout artist on some Futurama episodes,[2] and as an occasional animator on WayForward titles.[3]

Creation of Shantae[]

In 1994, Erin had a flash of inspiration while coming back from her camp counselor days, and created a character named after one of the campers, Shantae. She also imagined that she could conjure animals or charm them with a dance, which would later be refined as the transformation dances. Matt liked the idea and picked the character to flesh out the background and mythology.

Erin sported very long hair at the time and would often give a blow in Matt's face when she turned around. This inspired Matt for the Hair Whip, Shantae's trademark move.[1]

Influences[]

Aside from the aforementioned encounter with a camper named Shantae, Matt Bozon has claimed that the main influence behind the character for Erin was the 60s TV sitcom I Dream of Jeannie.[4]
